Intrinsic-ID launches Confidentio Security Processing Unit (SPU) for mobile applications

Confidentio is a family of securely integrated and optimized IP modules which combine:
- Intrinsic-ID’s flagship product QuiddiKey™ for secret key storage
- a FIPS-197 compliant AES cryptographic IP core
- optionally includes a dedicated SRAM bank of ~1KB (for 128-bit key)
Confidentio is based on the patented Hardware Intrinsic Security (HIS) technology from Intrinsic-ID, where a secret key is extracted like a silicon biometric or fingerprint from silicon hardware directly and only when required.
Attackers have nothing to find because no key is stored nor present in the power down state.
Confidentio security processing units excel by their ease-of-integration in a standard manufacturing flow, their scalability and small area and/or SW footprint which enables mass-scale deployment in cost-sensitive consumer applications.
Confidentio is available as synthesized RTL or in a software version, as well as for prototyping on Microsemi’s SmartFusion® and ProASIC®3 FPGAs.
Functionality:
Confidentio is the world’s first and only encryption module that has built-in key storage functionality without requiring embedded non-volatile memory.
Advantages:
- Superior security and anti-tamper characteristics based on patented HIS technology
- Secret key is extracted from the silicon fingerprint and not present when the device is powered off
- Protects against cloning of devices and systems
- Enables a cost reduction through a lower bill of material for ICs with security functionality

- Secure Elements in SIM cards, SD cards or as embedded Secure Elements in mobile phones and/or tablets
- Protection of software, content and data (e.g. streaming media) against piracy through Software/Hardware Binding
- Secure transactions such as Mobile Contactless Payments
- Flexible system for Secure Boot (anti-virus protection)
- Secure storage of data (onto the device or in the cloud)

Confidentio is available in multiple configurations, for instance:
‘Confidentio-AES 256’ includes QuiddiKey™ and a FIPS-197 compliant AES cryptographic IP core for 256 bits user-defined or device-specific keys.
‘Confidentio-AES 256 high speed’ includes in addition the iRNG (Intrinsic-ID Random Number Generator) product and very high throughput encryption/decryption.
