Intrinsic ID Announces Citadel Infrastructure Tools to Fully Unleash Power of Unclonable Device Identities for IoT Security
SUNNYVALE, Calif. – March 5, 2019 – Intrinsic ID, the world’s leading provider of digital authentication technology for Internet of Things security, today announced the release of Citadel Infrastructure Tools, a suite of software products which eases deployment of unclonable device identities for securing IoT applications.
“Citadel Infrastructure Tools will help semiconductor makers, module manufacturers, and OEMs to facilitate deployment of BroadKey and QuiddiKey root of trust products,” said Pim Tuyls, Intrinsic ID chief executive officer. “The capabilities in the Citadel Infrastructure Tools will prove to be vital to cost-effectively scale security of IoT device shipments to trillions of devices, which is necessary for the mass-market deployment our customers require.”
Citadel Infrastructure Tools work in combination with BroadKey or QuiddiKey, Intrinsic ID products for key management. BroadKey and QuiddiKey extract unique secrets from the uniqueness inherent to every piece of silicon by utilizing Intrinsic ID’s patented SRAM PUF (physical unclonable function) technology. The Citadel Infrastructure Tools translate those unique secrets into unclonable device identities consisting of a private-public key pair along with a certificate. The device-unique public key and its certificate form the basis of complete device lifecycle security.
Citadel Provisioning Tool
The provisioning capability initializes an IoT device’s SRAM PUF-based root of trust, implemented with either QuiddiKey or BroadKey, to generate its unclonable device identity. The software tool consists of a PC-based tool that interacts with an embedded firmware image on the IoT device. Features include the abilities to activate a fresh cryptographic context based on the SRAM PUF root of trust. The Citadel Provisioning Tool enables robust public identity generation via certificate signing requests and device certificate generation. It also facilitates optional registration with certificate authorities, and certificate installation on a device or attachment to an IoT cloud service for just-in-time registration.
Citadel Crypto Tool
The crypto tool is a PC-host software product for making full use of unclonable device identities for secure operations in the field. Features include cryptogram generation and processing for secure asynchronous messaging to/from a PUF-backed application, as is required for key provisioning. It also offers signature verification in applications such as device-to-host authentication, and identification and authentication of devices based on unclonable identities, such as for integrity of the supply chain.
“Intrinsic ID’s Citadel tools enable our customers to automate the deployment of a hardware-based root of trust in a less-than-trustworthy supply chain,” said Jason Zhu, chief executive officer of GOWIN Semiconductor. “In this way we can offer not only a robust security solution, but we are sensitive to our customers’ supply chain OpEx cost by facilitating manufacturing operations in less-than ideal security environments.”
